Akoya White & Gray Pearls
Our akoya pearls are hand selected from the top 1% of Japan’s annual pearl harvest. Our akoya pearls come in white and gray hues. We do not use any dyes or chemicals to alter or enhance the color of our akoya pearls. The hue of our white pearls and gray pearls occur naturally.
Our pearl farms culture our akoya pearls between 1.5 to 2 years depending on the size of the pearls desired. Our white and gray akoya pearls’ diameter normally range from 7-9mm. Moreover, the oyster secretes finer nacre that is more lustrous than other nacre types. Our white pearls are produced in cream, pink, blue and silver overtones.
The Japanese akoya, Pinctada fucata martensii, measures 10-cm in length. Within today’s cultured pearl industry, Japanese farms have mostly converted to using a hybrid bred from the Pinctada fucata martensii and the Pinctada chemnitzi.
